Taking part in the Epic MegaJam 2025 was an incredible experience, and we’re proud to share that our game "The Ballad Of The Thulhu" was awarded the Army Of Two category during the competition.

The Epic MegaJam is one of the largest Unreal Engine game jams in the world, bringing together developers from across the globe to create a playable game in a very short amount of time using Unreal Engine. The challenge pushes teams to think creatively, work quickly, and turn ideas into fully playable experiences under intense time pressure.
For us, The Ballad Of The Thulhu began as a simple concept: a tiny Thulhu creature who just wanted to enjoy a quiet evening playing the organ. But when their music sheets were scattered across a mysterious forest, the idea quickly evolved into a whimsical platforming adventure set within the strange and glowing Fungi Forest.
Over the course of the jam we focused on building a world that felt atmospheric and memorable. Using Unreal Engine 5 features such as dynamic lighting, Lumen, and stylised environmental design, we created a strange forest environment filled with glowing soul lanterns, unusual fungal growths, and playful platforming challenges.
One of the most interesting parts of the development process was experimenting with player movement. Rather than relying purely on traditional side-scrolling controls, we introduced a camera system that allows players to subtly rotate the perspective while moving. This small twist adds a sense of depth and exploration to the world and encourages players to observe their surroundings as they navigate the forest.
Working within the limited time of a game jam always brings its own set of challenges. Many systems had to be built quickly, ideas had to be simplified, and decisions had to be made rapidly to ensure we could deliver a complete experience before the deadline. Despite the time pressure, the jam allowed us to experiment freely and focus on creating something unique and memorable.
Winning the Army Of Two category was an amazing moment for us and a huge encouragement to continue developing the project further. What started as a small jam prototype has now become the foundation for a larger vision for The Ballad Of The Thulhu.
Thanks to Epic!
The recognition from the Epic MegaJam has helped validate the concept and demonstrated that the game resonates with players and developers alike. It has also inspired us to continue expanding the project, improving the world, and pushing the game towards becoming a fully realised indie title.
We’re incredibly grateful to Epic Games for hosting the MegaJam and supporting developers through events like this. Game jams like the Epic MegaJam are not only a fantastic opportunity to experiment with ideas but also a reminder of how powerful creative collaboration can be.
The journey for The Ballad Of The Thulhu is only just beginning, and we’re excited to keep building on what started during the jam.
Testing and Feedback
Testing is an ongoing process throughout development. We conduct regular playtests to gather feedback from players and make improvements. This iterative approach ensures that we are creating a game that resonates with our audience if you have any input please reach out to us.
